FAQs

What is included in the registration fee?

Your registration fee includes participation in the Relay, an official Relay For Life t-shirt and a free cancer smart breakfast on Sunday morning. It also covers the cost of entertainment and event logistics, essential safety and security at the event, like the presence of St John Ambulance.

Do I have to have 10-15 people in my team?

We recommend between 10 -15 people in a team, however, this in not compulsory. We encourage all team members to contribute to a team, big or small. Some large corporates may have 100 participants in their team while other teams may be made up of 8-10 people. Everyone can make a difference!

Can i add team members to my team after we have already registered?

Absolutely! Most teams register online with one persona nd then slowly add team members as time goes by. You can even have last minute registrations added to your team on the day - just visit the registration tent on the day. Participants that register on the day will still recieve a Relay For Life t-shirt.

If I register before the event where do I collect my t-shirt?

T-shirts will be available for collection at Team Information Nights. T-shirts will only be available for those who have registered two days prior to the Team Information Night. T-shirts will also be available for collection at the event.

Can i take part in the 'Survivors Walk' and 'Candlelight Ceremony' without being on a Relay For Life team?

Yes. The ceremonies are the real highlight and we want to se as many people as possible taking part. If you are a Survivor or Carer, go to the registration tent on the day and fill out a form with your details to recieve a 'Survivor' or 'Carer' sash and join in the first lap on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm. We then invite you to attend the free Survivors and Carers Afternoon Tea.

Do all team members need to stay overnight at the track?

No. Come and go as you please. We understand that some people wont be able to be at the track for the whole event. We ask that team members try to stay at the track for as long as possible to support their team and share the relay roster, particularly late at night but we realise that this isn't always possible. You are welcome to pitch a tent. Please camp only in the designated areas. Cars, caravans, campervans and trailers are not permitted on the track.

What if our team can't be there at all during the night?

That is ok too. While we encourage teams to have at least one member of the team on the track for the entire period, we would rather have the team participate for 12hours than not at all.

Does everyone dress up?

No, but it does make it more colourful and fun if you do! We encourage teams to develop a team theme and decorate their campsite. Costumes, wigs, accessories all amke for a great experience!

Do I need to be sponsored for each lap I complete?

No, however you can if you would like to. Some participants have people or businesses sponsor them per lap as part of their fundraising but its not compulsary and completely up to you.

On the Day

Can visitors come to Relay For Life without registering in a team?

Yes. However if they wish to walk on the track or participate in the activities they must register as an on the day participant.

Will there be food available?

Food and drink will be available for the entire event. There will be a mobile coffee van and ice cream can and plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the day.

What happens in the case of bad weather?

The event will generally go ahead rain or shine. If someone has cancer, they can't have a day off because its raining, so we Relay in all conditions. However, in the case of extreme bad weather, the organising committee will decide if its safe for the event to continue.

Can I park my car for the whole time at the event?

Yes.

What happens if someone gets injured?

Notify the nearest committee member as soon as possible.

St Johns Ambulance will be onsite for the entire event. They have qualified staff to treat minor conditions and assist in the case of an emergency.

Can I bring my dog?

No. Sorry not pets allowed. The only exception is for Guide Dogs accompanying sight impaired people.
