Fundraising Help
Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back! is what Relay For Life is all about. Fundraising is one of the most powerful ways that we can fight back against cancer.
We strongly encourage you to help raise funds in support of your team's participation in Relay For Life. Over the years, Relayers have developed many interesting, fun and successful ways of doing this.
Fundraising in 2012
We are well and truly underway with our fundraising efforts for 2012. It is fantastic to see that so many teams have already started their fundraising. Feedback from past teams is that the earlier one starts, the easier (and higher) the fundraising is.
The quickest way to start seeing your team's total rise is to utilise the donation invitation on your personal or team page. The hard work has been done for you! Simply log in - click on send email and invite people to donate (a standard email appears and then you just enter the addresses of people in your address book).
You'll probably find that the people you least expect to donate are usually the first to help out. The more team participants you have registered, the more emails that go out. Such a quick, easy and no stress way of fundraising.
Alternatively, direct as many people as you can to the website, where they can find you and click on the donate button. The bonus is they will probably learn a lot about Relay and why we are supporting this great community event.
Some ideas for fundraising events that teams have used are: Fashion parades, movie nights, trivia nights, bare foot bowls days, bingo nights, harbour cruises, dinners, dollar-for-dollar matching at work, cake stalls, BBQs, selling chocolates, selling handcrafted items, karaoke nights, mufti days in schools - the list goes on.
Matched Fundraising
Many companies have a matched funding program whereby they will match dollar-for-dollar the amount you or your team fundraises. Even if there is currently no such program in place, they could be more than willing to make a donation and support their employees. All you have to do is ask!
Where do I start?
Speak to your HR department and ask them if your company matches funds raised by their employees or has a program in place to donate a certain amount to the charitable causes supported by employees. Let them know what it is that you are taking part in and what you hope to achieve (fundraising $X amount towards cancer research and support services for Cancer Council NSW).
How do I ask?
The best way to ask is in person. Face-to-face is the best way to communicate your message, your goal and to ask for support. If this is not possible, send an email or call the appropriate person (and follow it up). If they would like a letter, email or any supporting documentation outlining and confirming your proposal, they will let you know.
Why not offer to put your company's logo on your page (or your team page) and to publicize the fact that you are receiving support from the business? Everyone who visits your page will see the fact that your organization is doing something great!
Put together a proposal to show you are serious about asking for their support. It makes sense to follow the same principle of any client or supplier who is looking for their business or investment. You have to build a case for it.
We can help you!
We can supply any information or official documentation that your workplace may need on behalf of Cancer Council NSW. We can also send letters stating the amount you have raised and will also send them a letter of thanks and a certificate after the event.
