The Gunnedah community has thrown its support behind Relay For Life since 2005. In its first year, the community raised a whopping $112,000 for Cancer Council NSW. Eighty-two teams made up of 1215 participants walked around Kitchener Oval for 24 hours.
Two years later, the community rallied again to raise almost $78,000. This time 71 teams made up of 1039 people took to the track to celebrate local survivors and their carers, remember those they had lost to cancer and made the pledge to fight back.
And fight back they did. In 2009, Gunnedah took to Kitchener Oval once more to raise almost $42,000 for Cancer Council's support and information programs as well as fund vital cancer research.
Now, they're back in 2012 to do it all again, this time hoping to be bigger and better than ever before. With a new sun smart timeslot, kicking off at 2pm Saturday and finishing at 10am Sunday.
The committee is fresh-faced and keen to reinvigorate the Relay and preparations are already well under way.
It's never too early to get your team together and register. The teams they raise the most money are often those that start early and share the fun. It's easy to register online at http://relay.cancercouncil.com.au/2012/gunnedah_2012 and if you're an earlybird it's only $15, which includes your relay shirt and breakfast at the event.
