Survivors and Carers our true VIP's
Survivors and carers are central to Relay For Life. The opening lap of each event is dedicated to cancer survivors and those who have cared for someone facing cancer. All cancer survivors and cares are welcome to join in - you don't even need to be a member of team. If you would like to register as a survivor or a carer, please contact your local Relay.
The first lap of Relay honours cancer survivors and carers who take to the track proudly wearing coloured sashes. All participants gather around the track to applaud the courage and strength shown by those completing the lap. With motivation levels high, all are eager to hit the track as Relay For Life begins.
All cancer survivors and carers are welcome to take part in the walk whether they are part of a team or not. Survivors are those who are now cancer-free or those who are currently undergoing treatment. Carers include those walking with the person they cared for and those walking in honour of a loved one lost.
A message of HOPE
Relay For Life is a moving celebration of cancer survivorship and is an opportunity to promote a message of HOPE that affirms people do survive cancer.
For the newly diagnosed, Relay offers a chance to meet someone who has survived the same type of cancer. For the cancer patient in treatment, Relay provides an opportunity to share with others. For the long-term survivor, Relay encourages recognition of their struggle.
Caregivers also find hope in Relay For Life. These individuals give their time, love and support to friends, family and neighbours who face cancer. At Relay, everyone understands the challenges and joys of being a caregiver. There is peace of mind knowing that together we can face the challenges ahead
