Volunteers are invaluable in bringing together the Relay For Life events in their community and helping make it such a successful and inspirational day.
On a wider scale more than 37,000 volunteers work for us each year which contributes to more than 258,000 hours to our cause. We calculated an estimated volunteer contribution of more than $6.5 million. All of this is about numbers and measures but what can't be measured in exact terms is the massive contribution volunteers make to the culture and capabilities of Cancer Council NSW.
All Relay For Life events are organised by a volunteer committee - both in the lead up to, and on the day of the event. Committees are supported by Cancer Council NSW to stage their event in line with the International Relay Standards, whilst enabling committees the opportunity to add their own local touch. Committee members organise all elements of the event, promote Relay, recruit teams to participate, coordinate ceremonies, source entertainment and much more. | ![]() |

You can volunteer to help out on the day - anything from registering participants, bump-in or bump out, handling the merchandise or even helping transport people around. It's such a great way to meet like-minded people and it's a great way to get a taste of what it's like to be a Committee Member for a day!
